(Norwalk, Conn.) On May 26, the Town Clerk’s Office announced that the City of Norwalk’s 2023 dog licenses will be available for registration beginning June 1.
All dog licenses must be renewed for 2023, and any new dogs over six months of age or currently unlicensed must also register at this time. In 2022, the City of Norwalk issued nearly 2,900 dog licenses, an increase of 500 from 2021.
All currently registered dog owners will soon receive renewal notices in the mail or via email (please check your junk or spam folders). Residents are responsible for renewing their dog license annually regardless of if they receive a renewal notice.
Owners can renew their dog’s license in person at the Town Clerk’s Office, online at norwalkct.gov or through the mail. The Town Clerk Office is located in room 102, City Hall, 125 East Avenue. If residents plan to mail in the form, they can address it to Norwalk Town Clerk 125 East Ave Norwalk, CT 06856 and should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for your return.
Residents may also drop off their renewal request at The Town Clerk drop box, located outside the front doors at City Hall. The Town Clerk’s office will process and mail the license to you.
Per Connecticut State Statute 22-349: All dogs must be licensed with the city. Owners of unlicensed dogs could be subject to a $75.00 fine.
The 2023 license is valid from July 1, 2023, until June 30, 2024. Fees for neutered and spayed dogs are $8.00, and the fees for unneutered and unspayed dogs are $19.00. In July, the fees increase by $1.00 and each month thereafter, another $1.00 is added to the original fee. If expired, a current rabies certificate signed by a veterinarian must be presented to the office to comply with state law. If a dog has not been registered before, a neutering or spaying certificate must also be presented for the first time when registering, if the dog has been altered.
The State of Connecticut has canceled all Rabies Clinics held by the Towns again this year.
