Joint Investigation Classified the Cause of the Nelson Avenue House Fire as Undetermined

(Norwalk, Conn.) Today, July 26, 2022, Norwalk's Fire Marshal's Office announced the outcome of the joint investigation of the Nelson Avenue house fire that occurred on May 14, 2022, and led to the tragic fatality of 7-year-old Summer Fawcett.

After completing a joint investigation, investigators from the Norwalk Fire Marshal’s Office, Connecticut State Police Explosion and Fire Investigation Unit and Travelers Insurance have officially deemed the cause of the fire to be undetermined. The scene has been cleared by origin and cause investigators.

 “After all competent ignition sources were examined during the investigation in the area of origin, we deemed the cause of the fire to be undetermined,” said Norwalk Fire Marshal Broderick Sawyer. “The City of Norwalk continues to keep Summer Fawcett, her parents, loved ones and friends in our thoughts during this time of inconceivable loss.”
