(Norwalk, Conn.) Today, July 26, 2022,  Mayor Rilling announced that he is directing flags in the City of  Norwalk to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Mayor Bill Collins, who  passed away on July 21 in an automobile accident in Farmington, New  Mexico.

Mayor Rilling has asked that all flags in city buildings  be lowered immediately. The Office of the Mayor will send out a  notification when flags should be returned to full-staff.

“In the  wake of this great loss, I’ve ordered all flags at City buildings to be  lowered to half-staff in honor of Mayor Bill Collins,” said Mayor Harry Rilling.  “He was a highly respected individual and Mayor. He had tremendous love  for Norwalk and through his leadership and deep commitment to giving  back to the community, made a lasting impact on our city. He was  especially passionate about issues such as affordable housing and  finding ways to help the less fortunate. He has certainly left an  enduring mark on our community, and we will miss him.”

Mayor  Collins served two terms as Mayor of the City of Norwalk from 1977-1981  and 1983 to 1987. Before becoming Mayor, he also served as a state  representative from 1975 to 1977, representing the 140th District.
