MAYOR’S UPDATES
NEW WALK-IN PERMITTING CENTER OPEN! Don’t miss out on the next “Walk-in Permitting” office hours which will be held on Wednesday, June 7th and Wednesday June 21st from 9:00am to 12:00pm on the 4th floor cafeteria of the Stamford Government Center. Residents are encouraged to fill in a survey ahead of time

CAREER DISCOVERY FOR STAMFORD STUDENTS: I was glad to join the Village Foundation, Future Five, the Boys and Girls Club, and other community partners for the launch of the Village Foundation Career Discovery program, to expose Stamford students to different career opportunities.

In Connecticut, we’ve taken steps to strengthen our gun laws, enacting common sense measures like requiring background checks, safe storage in homes and motor vehicles, banning ghost guns and bump stocks, and Red Flag laws. Train Station Update: On Wednesday, May 31st shortly after 5:00 pm, Stamford 911 dispatch received multiple calls regarding a ceiling collapse at the Stamford Train Station. Once on the scene, the Stamford Fire Department determined that there was a partial ceiling collapse near the stairway between the platform and lower concourse tunnel. The tunnel has been shut down and is closed until the investigation is completed.
Officials from the Mayor’s Office and City of Stamford Building Department, Fire Marshals Office have been in contact with the Connecticut State Department of Transportation and Building Officials. The Stamford Train Station is the property of the State of Connecticut, and it is in their jurisdiction to determine the cause of this incident.
The tunnel will remain closed until at least next week, pending a walkthrough by the Department and code officials. Amtrak and Metro North Train service have not been impacted by this incident.
Mayor’s Youth Employment Program: We are looking for hosts and sponsors for this incredible program which offers students access to paid employment in the private or non-profit sectors. This initiative provides Stamford’s youth with a “real world” perspective before they go to college and improves their skills to make them better workers both for this current job and future workforce opportunities they will pursue. Connecticut DOT Open House: The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) recently held a public open house at the Government Center to share more information about the proposed Stamford Transportation Master Plan. Parks Strategic Plan: The Mayor launched the Parks Strategic Plan and wants to hear from residents on how to manage and invest in the sustainability of our parks, beaches, and trails. Community Engagement sessions will be hosted on June 8, and June 15 via Zoom. Visit, www.stamfordct.gov/psp for more information and to fill out the survey.

ConnDOT Stamford Station Construction:
- Construction continues at Stamford Station, please be mindful and plan ahead.
- Passengers can find the updated train schedule here.
- Upon completion, an existing speed restriction in the Stamford area will be eliminated and trains will be able to travel 20mph faster through this section.
