Hi, my name is Carol Wiltshire-Toth, and I am the Norwalk Public Schools’ Workforce Development Manager. I began my role in April and can’t tell you how excited I am to be in this critically important field!
With my former work in higher education, PreK-12 school counseling, and as a former 18-year Realtor in Norwalk, I am very fortunate to have lifelong career experiences that speak to this new position within the Norwalk Public School system (NPS). Further, as a lifelong Norwalk resident and former NPS graduate, I am fully invested in the Norwalk community and its success.
I want to share a snapshot of the NPS Workforce Development structure I am working on which will relate to your organization. My charge is to implement Workforce Development in all our schools K-12 and beyond. As such, I envision in grades 6-12, scholars will have formalized pathways embedded in their school to choose what they would like to explore relative to their future career goals. This leads to valuable experiences which will inform their choices in the areas of volunteering, internships, and job opportunities as they move through high school and enter the Norwalk workforce.
The benefit to the Greater Norwalk Chamber members is that we will have high school graduates exposed to various career pathways, which may serve as a pipeline to your field and organization. You will be able to tap into our Norwalk talent for experiences such as volunteering, internships, and jobseekers for each of your organizations.
To that end, I have created the NPS Workforce Development Job Opportunity Series. This series is promoted throughout NPS to our students and families and is embedded on our website in the Workforce Development section. This series provides an opportunity for our scholars and their family members to be connected to your organization by fulfilling your workforce needs.
I would like to extend each of you an offer to email me any job opportunities you have within your organization that you would like to be promoted to our school and family community. Feel free to email me your flyers; please know that sending them in English and Spanish will give you the best possible reach. You can also email me your job posting(s) as well, if you wish. The positions can be temporary, for the summer, or permanent. Be sure to include the minimum age for application, contact information for your organization, and please include the minimum job requirements along with a job description.
I hope to meet each of you at the upcoming Greater Norwalk Chamber events and look forward to working with you in partnership.
Best,
Carol Wiltshire-Toth
